The fourth of July is just around the corner and who couldn’t use a fun sweet snack to add the party! This Patriotic Popcorn is festive with it’s red, white, and blue colors. It is flavored with Jello and white chocolate!
I used plain salted microwave popcorn to make this. You could certainly pop your own. I popped 3 bags and poured each bag into a separate bowl and set them aside white I made the coatings.
Red and Blue Popcorn
The red and blue popcorn is a candy coating that is made from Jello, butter, corn syrup, and brown sugar. The red is flavored with strawberry jello and the blue is flavored with cotton candy jello. Any red or blue colored flavor will work.
To make the candy coating, melt the butter and corn syrup in a saucepan over medium heat. When the butter is melted, stir in the sugar and Jello powder. Stir the mixture and cook until it is thick and bubbly and the sugar and powder are dissolved. It will take about 5 minutes. Pour the coating over one of the bags of popcorn. Carefully stir to coat. Spread the coated popcorn on a foil or parchment-lined cookie sheet. Bake the popcorn for 10 minutes in a 300-degree oven. Repeat this process for the second color and second bag of popcorn. Allow to cool and break up into smaller pieces.
The white popcorn is coated with melted white chocolate or candy melts and sprinkled with red and blue sprinkles. To do this, melt about 1 cup of white chocolate or white candy melts in the microwave for about a minute then stir, and cook in 30-second increments until smooth and completely melted. Pour the melted white chocolate over the third and final bag of popcorn. Stir to coat. Then toss with some red and blue sprinkles. Finally, spread on a cookie sheet and set aside until the chocolate is cooled and set.
When the candy coated popcorn is cooled and the chocolate popcorn is set, toss them all together and enjoy your red, white, and blue popcorn!
The candy coating and sprinkles can be switched up to match any celebration.
This colorful candy coated popcorn is the perfect addition to your 4th of July celebration! What are you waiting for? Get your Patriotic Popcorn on!
